Deep within the Yongwa Forest Reserve in Ghana’s Eastern Region lies one of the country’s most fragile ecosystems — home to *Talbotiella gentii*, an endemic and critically endangered tree species found nowhere else in the world.
This dry, hilly, and rocky protected landscape, covering approximately 7.77–17.02 km², was designated a Globally Significant Biodiversity Area in 1999 due to its unique population of *T. gentii*. However, over the years, the species and its habitat have come under increasing threat from illegal harvesting, agricultural encroachment, and the potential environmental impacts of nearby quarrying activities.
At Eco Rescue, we are exploring meaningful ways to contribute to the conservation and restoration of this critical ecosystem. As a first step, our team recently embarked on a reconnaissance visit to gain first-hand insight into the challenges facing the reserve and its biodiversity.
Protecting *Talbotiella gentii* requires collaboration, research, and sustained conservation action. We are therefore seeking partnerships with organisations, institutions, researchers, and conservation stakeholders who are interested in working with us to safeguard this unique species and its habitat for future generations.
Together, we can help preserve one of Ghana’s irreplaceable natural treasures.
