The Bia Landscape in Ghana’s Western North Region is one of the country’s last remaining tropical high forest zones. Within it lies the Bia Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO-recognized site that shelters endangered species — from majestic elephants to rare primates — and serves as a vital wildlife corridor between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. The area also includes the Bia Tributaries North and parts of the Krokosua Hills Forest Reserves, harboring valuable timber and plant species found nowhere else. But this vital ecosystem is under threat from deforestation, illegal mining, and unsustainable cocoa farming.

Eco Rescue is working with local communities and forestry authorities to restore degraded forests and help local farmers adopt sustainable livelihoods that protect both people and nature. With your support, we can grow 100,000 native trees over a two-year period, restore biodiversity, and secure a greener future for the communities who call Bia home. 🌱

What We Aim For

1. Raise 50,000 Indigenous Trees: Help establish a large community nursery to raise native seedlings for restoring degraded lands and protecting biodiversity.
2. Create Local Jobs: Provide temporary employment for at least 50 community members who will prepare sites, collect seeds, care for seedlings, and plant trees — restoring both ecosystems and livelihoods.
3. Promote Sustainable Farming: Train local farmers in agroecological practices and supply 100 farmers with tree seedlings to integrate into their farms, boosting cocoa productivity while protecting the environment.
4. Raise Awareness: Educate 2,500 community members through public forums and radio discussions about the importance of forest conservation, tree planting, and climate resilience.
5. Map & Protect Forests: Demarcate and map restored lands and community forests to support effective, long-term management and monitoring.
6. Ensure Ecological Recovery: Continuously monitor and maintain the planted trees to ensure high survival rates and lasting ecological restoration.
